Release Notes:
Punchline knows it’s not about how big your label is — it’s about the size ofyour effort. And effort is something that Punchline puts as much heart and soulinto as they do their music. On “Action”, Punchline’s first full-length releaseon Fueled By Ramen Records, they are out to make that effort much louder thanjust words. Which is how they got their reputation as one of the hardest workingbands out there.
After playing over 200 shows in 2003 and touring non-stop since the release of“Action” in February 2004, Punchline has continued to build a solid fan basenation wide. Their signature sound was developed on “The Rewind EP” - theirfirst Fueled By Ramen release. Some elements are constant like the return oftheir incredible three part vocal harmonies, which they have perfected in theirlive show. Also returning is the signature switching off between their leadsingers, guitarist Steve Soboslai and bassist Chris Fafalios, at any givenmoment in a song sometimes even switching mid-verse. Added are crunchy guitarleads and even soloing but it’s still hook-filled rock on steroids with heavenlyharmonies you’d swear were coming from the sky.
While often being lumped in with the current crop of “is it emo? is it pop punk?is it alternative?” bands, Punchline’s sound has been honed into roughly threeminute upbeat catchy autobiographical tunes that leave you generally happy. Thesongs run the gamut from the defiant “Just Getting Started” (which ironicallycloses the record) to the very introspective “Battlescars.” Punchline alsodemonstrates their ability to stretch musically as on the electronic “ABeautiful Green.” The songs on “Action” burrow into your head and stay there.
Their relentless touring over the last year has enabled the friendly foursome tomeet and befriend not only a ton of music lovers on the road but also almostevery band in the genre. Thus far enabling Punchline to play with Catch 22, FallOut Boy, Coheed and Cambria, Good Charlotte, Brand New, Sum 41, some dates onthe Warped Tour and several stints with their idols Less Than Jake. And as theanthemic last song on “Action” proclaims - “We’re not done yet, we’re justgetting started!”
